The company with the slogan “Food with Integrity,” offers burritos, tacos, burrito bowls (a burrito without the tortilla) and salads made from fresh, high-quality raw ingredients at its 900+ locations across the country and even in Canada and London. That means everything is unprocessed, seasonal, family-farmed, sustainable, nutritious, naturally raised, added hormone free, organic, and artisanal. Not only does it serve more naturally raised meat than any other restaurant in the country but it’s the largest restaurant buyer of avocados.
Chipotle founder, chairman and co-CEO Steve Ells, who appeared on Oprah earlier this year to tout his company’s philosophy, also is an advocate of the “Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act (PAMTA) of 2009” to keep antibiotics out of animals and testified before the House Rules Committee in 2009. Giving antibiotics to the animals we eat causes antibiotics to be less effective in humans.
The company is as concerned for its customers as it is the environment and its employees, who are offered health benefits, 401K and paid vacation. Its diners have vegetarian and vegan dining options while over 300 of its restaurants recycle glass, plastic, and/or cardboard. A couple of its eateries incorporate elements of sustainable design and Ells hopes more new ones will in the future. Chipotle’s use of organically grown beans has directly led to a 100,000 pound reduction in chemical pesticide use.
So when only fast food will do, know that Chipotle looks out for you and the environment.
