A proactive person will be a productive person, the kind of person who achieves their goals and lives life to the full. There is something life-affirming about living your life to the full and living up to up to your potential. However, to do so you need to be able to leverage your time, resources, and skills. This is where being proactive comes into play â it’s going to help you make the best of every situation.
What does proactive mean? It’s simple â you take responsibility, you take the initiative, and you take action. The opposite of proactive is reactive, reactive people allow the unpredictability of life to dictate their actions and attitude.
Are you a proactive person? Are you being proactive in your life? Often, the people we think of as being proactive are only that way in the workplace. Yet, when you get them in their personal lives and in their social lives, they are completely different.
When people talk about setting goals, unfortunately, they generally mean goals related to the workplace. A proactive person doesn’t wait for it to happen, they make plans and execute them.
2. Getting Organized
When you have a goal, you have to get organized. When you get organized you break down those goals into actionable tasks. It’s all well and good to set goals, but it doesn’t mean much if you aren’t organized enough to execute them.
You can use an app, a journal, or an online diary to create actions and deadlines. While you’re there, you can use it for social events, chores, and bills to help you manage stress and avoid overwhelm.
3. Taking Responsibility
If you want to reframe proactivity â do it with this word â responsibility. The foundation of proactivity is taking responsibility. By taking responsibility for your actions you make proactivity and responsibility a part of who you are as a person.
You don’t need to wait for an opportunity to come, you don’t need to wait for external validation. You’re accountable for your proactivity and it’s all about taking responsibility for your actions.

5. Constructive Language
Negative language tamps down your ability to take action. Try using constructive language with affirming and positive words to create your narrative. This isn’t about painting a pretty picture that doesn’t exist. It’s about building a positive narrative and being openminded about what experiences are possible. Use language that will make you take action.
