A Holistic Protocol To Support Your Body Through Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is scary, but we gotta talk about it. In my practice as a traditionally trained medical doctor, master coach, and complementary, intuitive practitioner, I’ve had the responsibility and privilege of supporting dozens of precious humans through their cancer journey. As we move into the hot, hot summer months, I want to share the common emotional-spiritual themes my skin cancer clients have observed in themselves through their work with me. I’ll also share exactly what we did to build resilience in them.

Through the coaching process 99% of my cancer clients realized that they’re extremely emotionally sensitive – essentially sieves for what’s going on around them.

They’re empaths, meaning they absorb the energies of others and get drained very easily when they’re around negative people.

My skin cancer clients are some of the most caring people I have ever met in my life. Their high sensitivity makes them incredible counselors, coaches, writers, and friends. They’re the listeners – the people who are always there for you and always make you feel better.

The downside of this personality type is that these people often end up being doormats for stronger personality types, and have difficulty dealing with challenging situations and emotions. They tend to find themselves easily hurt, needing days to recover from relatively minor upsets.

The skin cancer clients I’ve worked with also tend to be overly self-conscious, constantly wondering what others think of them.

So what’s the emotional-spiritual-physical protocol for strengthening the mind and body to fight cancer?

Let’s start with the emotional-spiritual side of things.

Here’s what you can do to strengthen your subtle body when you have skin cancer…

  1. Protect yourself and stand up for your needs.

Practice using your voice in small situations, like ordering at a restaurant, and then work on navigating more and more challenging situations – like difficult conversations with your boss or partner. It’s also very important to practice taking everything neutrally. It’s never about you, so try your best not to take anything personally.
  2. Embrace and rejoice in the fact that you don’t have control over everything

… if anything! Let life flow, and trust the process. No one has it all figured out, and no one’s in control. Let go of the illusion that you have control over your life, and trust the natural unfolding – even if it feels really hard right now. This will help you heal your spirit and increase your immunity.
  3. Add meditation into your life, if you haven’t already.

This silent practice boosts immunity and helps us come to peace with ourselves and our lives. Start with five minutes per day, then build up to 20 minutes. This ritual will transform your life on every level. You’ll worry less, effortlessly stand in your power, and strengthen your immunity from the inside out.

Speaking of strengthening your immunity from the inside out, these are the key food steps to take when you have skin cancer…

      1. Cut out sugar.

Why? It directly feeds cancer cells. Your cancer will grow if you keep eating sugar. I’m not trying to scare you, I’m just being honest with you, as always. Go cold turkey today, and add more sweetness into your life by spending time with people who love and support you.
      2. No more dairy.Cancer is an inflammatory condition, and dairy is one of the biggest causes of inflammation in the body. Switch over to unsweetened coconut or almond milk and yogurt. If you love dairy, add more satisfying plant-based fats into your diet, like avocado and macadamia nuts.
      3. Goodbye, gluten!Gluten is the other biggest cause of inflammation. It’s also a major thyroid inhibitor, meaning it may slow down your metabolism. Gluten behaves like “glue” in the digestive tract, leading to constipation and bloating for a lot of people. In skin cancer cases, avoid it.
      4. More greens, please.Greens fight inflammation like few other foods. You want to really be upping your greens when you have skin cancer, especially red and green cabbage, which have tons of antioxidants, a key skin-cancer fighting property. Include green juice in your protocol, too, with no fruit in it: Focus on celery, cucumber, spinach, parsley, arugula, and kale.
      5. Skip the grapes, watermelon, mango, and fruit juice.Don’t worry, you can still have some fruit! Include lower-sugar fruits like berries, pineapple, and grapefruit. Make your smoothies with twice as much veggies as fruit, as a rule of thumb.
      6. Add moringa and matcha. These two plant-based super green powders are great smoothie boosters. They give you tons of antioxidants and act as anti-inflammatories in the body. Add a teaspoon to your  morning smoothie, or make a creamy matcha latte with unsweetened coconut milk, using your blender
